Our Venetian Stucco Application Process
Achieving a perfect Venetian stucco finish requires precision and experience. Our process typically involves four key stages:
- 1
Surface Preparation (4-8 hours)
We begin by thoroughly cleaning the walls, removing any old paint, dust, or debris. Any cracks or holes are filled and sanded smooth. A primer coat is then applied to ensure optimal adhesion for the stucco. This foundational step is crucial for a lasting finish.
- 2
First Stucco Layer Application (3-6 hours)
Once the primer is dry, we apply the first thin layer of Venetian stucco using a specialised trowel. This layer provides the base colour and texture. We work methodically to ensure even coverage across the entire surface.
- 3
Second and Third Layers (4-8 hours)
After the first layer has dried sufficiently (typically 2-4 hours), we apply a second and often a third, even thinner layer. These subsequent layers are applied with varying pressure and angles to create the characteristic depth, movement, and subtle variations in tone that define Venetian stucco. Each layer requires drying time.
- 4
Polishing and Sealing (2-4 hours)
The final stage involves burnishing the dried stucco surface with a clean trowel to achieve its signature polished, marble-like sheen. For areas requiring extra durability, such as bathrooms or high-traffic zones, a protective wax or sealant is applied, enhancing its resistance to moisture and wear. The entire process, from start to finish, for an average room can take 1-3 days, depending on wall condition and surface area.
