How we work
In recent years, a multitude of new materials for kitchen countertops have emerged, including porcelain materials. These come in two types: laminate and full-body. The main difference is that 'laminate' materials consist of a base with a printed layer on the surface, which can then be coated with a transparent layer for a glossy finish, or left without a transparent layer for a matte finish. Then there are the 'full-body' porcelain materials, characterised by their entire structure being made of the same material; meaning the surface finish is not printed, but the entire thickness of the material has the same colour. Some brands polish them mechanically to achieve a glossy finish. The key difference between porcelain materials and synthetic materials that have dominated the market until now is their resistance to high temperatures (for normal kitchen use) as they are produced through firing, thus giving these materials excellent hardness for domestic use. They are great professionals with impeccable customer service. I recommend them 100%. Marble is used less frequently, although it has been worked with for centuries. Some constructions still stand today. Being limestone makes it vulnerable to acids such as citric acid, found in lemons, and acetic acid found in common vinegar (just two common examples). If a constant drip were left on marble, a surface pit would soon be noticeable. We do not recommend them for kitchen countertops but they can be used for flooring, wall cladding, bathroom countertops, and other surfaces with less risk of scorching or staining from acids. With minimal care, they can last for decades.
