If, after bleeding the radiator, it still heats poorly, there could be more serious underlying causes. Sludge accumulation is the most common. Over the years, the water in the heating circuit generates oxides and mineral residue that settles in the radiators, particularly at the bottom. This sludge narrows the water flow path and creates cold spots. The solution is a chemical flush of the entire circuit using a specific descaling product, introduced with the boiler off and circulated for several hours. It's completely drained before refilling with new water treated with a corrosion inhibitor. The typical problem arises when you turn on the boiler or underfloor heating after eight months of non-use and it doesn't respond. The pump has seized, the expansion vessel has lost pressure, or the thermostat has become deconfigured. We see this every November.
