If, after bleeding the radiator, it still heats poorly, there may be more serious underlying causes. Sludge buildup is the most common. Over the years, the water in the heating circuit can generate oxides and mineral deposits that settle in radiators, particularly at the bottom. This sludge reduces the effective water flow area, creating cold spots. The solution is a chemical flush of the entire circuit using a specific descaling product, introduced with the boiler off and circulated for several hours. The system is then completely drained before refilling with new water treated with a corrosion inhibitor.
