To add a new electrical socket where there wasn't one before, there are two approaches. The first is chasing. This involves cutting a channel in the wall from the nearest socket to the new point, running the cable through, and then plastering over the channel. It's the neatest option visually but requires minor building work and repainting the wall. Turnaround: 4-6 hours plus wall repair. Changing a standard light switch to a dimmer switch requires first checking that the light fitting is compatible. Standard LED bulbs are often not dimmable. Only LEDs labelled 'dimmable' work well with a dimmer. Older halogen bulbs can be dimmed without issue, but they are rarely used now due to their high energy consumption.
