Its drawback is seasonal movement with humidity: in humid summers it absorbs water and swells, in dry winters it contracts. This causes some doors to rub against the frame in July-August and have visible gaps in January-February. For homes lived in year-round in areas with stable humidity, this isn't a problem. For holiday homes with long periods of closure or intermittent heating, the movement is more noticeable. Changing a roller blind tape is probably the most requested repair in the entire area. The reason is structural. 90 percent of homes in blocks in Torrevieja, Punta Prima, Pilar de la Horadada, or La Mata have identical roller PVC blinds in concept. PVC slats joined by internal tapes. AC4 laminate floating flooring, which is what we sell most of today, combines very good value for money with resistance to heavy use. It consists of a top layer of melamine with a realistic wood effect (high durability against abrasion), a core of high-density fibreboard, and a balancing layer at the bottom. The top layer has an AC4 rating (suitable for heavy domestic or moderate commercial use) and withstands 25,000 abrasive cycles without visible wear. For standard domestic use, it lasts 15-25 years looking good. Its drawback is that although visually very realistic, it is not natural wood and cannot be sanded and re-varnished if damaged in any spot. Solid wood flooring is the traditional option. Each plank is 100 percent solid natural wood, typically oak, ash, or walnut. Much more expensive to buy and install, but it gives a unique character to the room as each plank has distinct natural grain. Its main advantage is indefinite durability. If it wears or gets damaged, it can be sanded and re-varnished several times throughout its life. This is what was used in older high-end flats and what we recommend for premium home renovations where the budget allows.
