Mat emulsion paint is the standard choice for ceilings and walls in rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms. It provides a uniform finish without reflections, hides imperfections in the substrate, and is easy to apply. For high-traffic areas (hallways, stairs, lobbies) and for children's rooms where walls get dirtier, we recommend washable satin emulsion, which has a very slight sheen but allows you to clean stains with a damp cloth without damaging the paint. One of the most frequent calls we receive in autumn-winter is from homeowners who haven't painted their homes for eight or ten years. They've noticed the walls are no longer white but a difficult-to-define yellowish-grey. Mediterranean light is very unforgiving on walls. Inexpensive white paints yellow due to slow oxidation, especially in rooms with direct sun or near the kitchen where steam and suspended oil reach. Marks from furniture, time's inevitable scuffs, and small knocks on corners are cumulative.
