If the radiator still heats poorly after bleeding, there can be more serious underlying causes. The primary one is sludge build-up. Over the years, the water in the heating circuit accumulates rust and mineral deposits that settle in the radiators, especially at the bottom. This sludge reduces water flow and creates cold spots. The solution is a chemical flush of the entire circuit using a specific descaling product, introduced with the boiler turned off and circulated for a few hours. It's then completely drained before refilling with new water treated with a corrosion inhibitor.
